Work Week Summary's from July 24 - August 10

July 24th to the 26th, Kee and I were sampling sites around the Pinedale field office. It was our first time sampling in the area due to the high flows that finally went down. Our first site was on a small piece of BLM land surrounded by private property. I did not realize that we were going to run into problems getting to the site so I did not get any contact information to speak to the owner. Kee was able to get a number from the PFO allowing us to call the owner. Thankfully she answered right away and said that it was completely fine for us to cross their property. The site was on Watson Draw North Beaver Creek just below a culvert within a small wetland. So we were only able to sample have of the transects and it was not easy trying to find bankfull. I had such high anxiety that day from not contacting the land owner and bankfull that I was glad when we finally finished. Mike's Elk Hunt

It all started earlier this year when Mike found out that he draw an Elk tag for hunt area 30 just south of town here in Rock Springs, WY. I came to find out that it is a very difficult unit to draw since there is only 50 tags and that it is a very highly priced trophy Elk spot. Little did I know that it was going to be a very long hunt season from scouting to the shooting part itself. Starting the beginning of August, Mike had placed out multiple trail cameras around the Aspen Mountain hunt area 30. Every few days, he would go out and download the pictures/videos captured from the trail cameras to bring them home to study every inch of a bull Elk that he could see on the computer screen. Some cameras did not produce much so he ended up moving a couple but others were on fire with some massive bulls. I did not think that there was any that size around this part of the state because of the harsh habitat but there were ones that would score over 380 on the Boone and Crockett. The Boon

Work Week Summary September 6th - 28th

I made it to the last month of being an Aquatic AIM Technician for the Great Basin Institute. September 6th-7th This week was a short one because of the holiday and I then took Tuesday off for whatever was to come from the opening of hunting season. On Wednesday, Kee and I sampled Carl Creek up the Ham's Fork Drainage. Kee tried to sample this site before but halfway through a fire blowup so he had to leave. The water level had changed dramatically to just being above the ankles so it was pretty difficult to get my macro invertebrate samples. I almost had a five inch Sculpin in my sample, haha, it scared me when this fish just all of a sudden came out of nowhere from like four inches of water. Once we finished sampling, Kee and I drove to Pinedale to spend the night before sampling a site up there the next day.
